Be a
godly example for others to follow |
|
|
-
"Dont let anyone look down on you because you
are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and
in purity" (1 Timothy 4:12).
|
|
Paul set a godly example |
|
|
-
"Even though you have ten thousand guardians in
Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the
gospel. Therefore I urge you to imitate me" (1 Corinthians 4:15-16).
|
-
"Follow my example, as I follow the example of
Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1).
|
-
"For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our
example. We were not idle when we were with you, nor did we eat anyones food without
paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we
would not be a burden to any of you" (2 Thessalonians 3:7-8).
|
-
"You know how we lived among you for your sake. You
became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the
message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit. And so you became a model to all the
believers in Macedonia and Achaia" (1 Thessalonians 1:5-7).
|
|
Jesus warns us never to set a bad
example and cause others to sin |
|
|
-
"Anyone who breaks one of the least of these
commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of
heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the
kingdom of heaven" (Matthew 5:19).
|
-
"But if anyone causes one of these little ones who
believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his
neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea" (Matthew 18:6).
|
|
Don't put a stumbling block in
another person's way |
|
|
-
"Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one
another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your
brothers way" (Romans 14:13).
|
|
Give up that which is in itself
indifferent |
|
|
-
"Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads
to peace and to mutual edification. Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food.
All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to
stumble. It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause
your brother to fall" (Romans 14:19-21).
|
-
"Be careful, however, that the exercise of your
freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak. For if anyone with a weak
conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idols temple, wont he
be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols? So this weak brother, for whom
Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge. When you sin against your brothers in this
way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ. Therefore, if what I eat
causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause
him to fall" (1 Corinthians 8:9-13).
