God often sends or allows affliction
to strengthen our faith |
-
"In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little
while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that
your faithof greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by
firemay be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus
Christ is revealed" (1 Peter 1:6-7).
-
"As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His
disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born
blind?" "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus,
"but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life" (John
9:1-3).
God disciplines those He loves |
-
"My son, do not make light of the Lords
discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those
he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son" (Hebrews 12:5-6).
God will never gives us more than we
can bear |
-
"No temptation has seized you except what is common
to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But
when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under
it" (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Affliction should draw us closer to
God's Word |
-
"It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might
learn your decrees. The law from your mouth is more precious to me than thousands of
pieces of silver and gold" (Psalm 119:71-72).
-
"Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey
your word. You are good, and what you do is good; teach me your decrees" (Psalm
119:67-68).
We should praise God while
undergoing affliction |
-
"Shout for joy, O heavens; rejoice, O earth; burst
into song, O mountains! For the LORD comforts his people and will have compassion on his
afflicted ones" (Isaiah 49:13).
-
"At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his
head. Then he fell to the ground in worship and said: "Naked I came from my
mothers womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
may the name of the LORD be praised" (Job 1:20-21).
Our future glory is worth enduring
hardships |
-
"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth
comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us" (Romans 8:18).
God blesses those who persevere
under trials |
-
"Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,
because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has
promised to those who love him" (James 1:12).
God can deliver us from affliction |
-
"He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he
will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us, as you
help us by your prayers. Then many will give thanks on our behalf for the gracious favor
granted us in answer to the prayers of many" (2 Corinthians 1:10:11).
